Creating Graphs

Graphs can be created from numerical data. You can select the block of data first, or start creating the graph first, as Quattro Pro will suggest a block of data to use. Then choose one of the following methods:

Floating Graphs

Floating graphs appear directly on the spreadsheet page. You must select the block of data to make into a graph first, then click on the graph button and then mark the area that the graph will appear in on the spreadsheet page.

If you want the headings to be included as axis labels, you can either include them in your data block, or add them later.

Graphs on a New Page

Select the [New Graph] menu item under the [Graphics] menu to create your graph on a new page. You can either select the block (or non-contiguous block) first, or specify all details in the dialogue box which follows.

The Graph Expert

The graph expert takes you through many options for creating a good graph from your data.

Click on the Expert button, and select the Graph Expert (or select it under the [Help] menu).

Follow the instructions in each Expert pane. Select the desired graph type and enter titles. Click the Tip and Help buttons at any time for more information.

As you finish each step click the Next Step button. Chose Previous Step to return to a previous pane. To create the graph on a new page, make sure you check the [Graph Window] radio button on the last pane of the graph expert.

The Objects Page

The objects page has icons for all graphs and slide shows that are created in your spreadsheet. You can reach the objects page by selecting it from the [View] menu, or by clicking the buttons at the bottom of the spreadsheet to go to the last page.

Double click on an icon for a graph to open it up in its own window.

Editing Graphs

A graph can be changed in many ways.

To edit a graph, select the [Graphics] [Edit Graph] menu item, or go to the objects page and double click the graph. You will then have the graph displayed in its own window. You can also edit a floating graph by double clicking the graph so that its border changes and the ToolBar changes.

The Property button (last button on the Property band) allows you to edit the Graph Setup (change between 2-D, 3-D, bar, pie, line graph types), the X and Y axis properties (colours, tick options, labelling and range), the series of data that is used for the graph, the legend position, etc.

Right click the graph window to bring up other editing options, such as adding a title to the graph.
