3. EDIT TABLES AND FORMS

(1) Enter Edit Mode

To make changes to information in a table enter edit mode. There are two ways to enter Edit mode, either: F10 (menu) Modify Edit type in the name of the table to be edited and hit <Enter> or When viewing a table on the screen press F9 (Edit).

(2) Make Changes

To make changes move to the piece of information to be changed, backspace out old information and type new information. If you want to make a change without deleting the information first then press Alt F5 (Field Edit) which allows you to move the cursor around within the entry and therefore insert or delete information. To exit Field Edit and return to Normal Edit press <Enter>. Note you can't move from field to field in Field Edit.

See the Appendix for a list of the use of various keys in Field Edit and Normal Edit:

(3) Undo Individual Changes

To reverse individual changes either choose F10 Undo or press Ctrl U. Undo is incremental which means it will undo changes in reverse order.

(4) Exit Edit Mode

There are three ways to exit Edit Mode: Press F10 (For the Edit Menu) then choose DO-IT!, saves changes to disk OR Press F2 the DO-IT! key, equivalent to first option OR Press F10 then Cancel and then Yes, to cancel changes that have been made.

(5) Adding or Deleting Records

To add a record move to required position and press Insert, a blank record will be added above the cursor. To add a record at the end of table move to the end and press the cursor key .

To delete a record move to required record and press delete. Don't forget Undo (3) if a record is deleted by accident.

If inserting many records it is safer to use F10 Modify DataEntry as adding records in edit mode can lead to existing records being changed by accident. To use correctly choose F10 Modify DataEntry and type the name of the required table. Data can be entered in either Table or Form mode (F7 to change between the two). When all the records have been entered press F2 (DO-IT!). The records from the Entry table will be added to the table specified when entering the DataEntry command.

When updating a table it is advisable to save after entering 15 to 20 records. This reduces the potential data loss.
